May 14, 2026. The Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency and the Civil Guard have seized 2,000 packs of contraband cigarettes in the luggage of a passenger at Ibiza airport.

The operation took place on May 8, when officials from the Customs Surveillance Service and Civil Guard officers from the Fiscal Section of the Civil Guard at Ibiza airport were carrying out a routine tax verification check of passengers in the airport's arrivals terminal.

During the check, a person was detected with an attitude that alerted the investigators, so they proceeded to identify him. He was a 23-year-old Romanian man who had arrived on a flight from Frankfurt that originated in Istanbul. After subjecting his two checked suitcases to a scanner inspection and a subsequent manual opening, the agents located inside a total of 2,000 packs of cigarettes without tax seals, with a total approximate value of 12,000 euros.

Therefore, the tobacco was seized for an administrative infraction of the Organic Law on the Repression of Smuggling, which establishes the confiscation of contraband tobacco and a penalty of 450% to 600% of its value.
