May 15, 2026. Officials from the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency in the Basque Country, within the framework of the functions of Customs Protection and ensuring the logistics chain of international trade of goods, have seized 75 kilos of cocaine hidden in the cargo of a truck in Irún.
The operation took place on April 27, when Customs Surveillance investigators set up a preventive customs control device on the AP-8 motorway towards France, at the Zaisa customs facility (Irun).
Among the vehicles on the road, the investigators selected for their control a truck with Romanian registration and a trailer registered in Spain. Once the driver, also of Romanian nationality, was identified, and the documentation supporting the movement of the transported cargo was analyzed, it was examined.
After inspecting several packages, one of them contained several vacuum-sealed blocks with different illustrations and numbers, with the shape, size and packaging typical of the transport of narcotic substances.
The drug detection test performed on the seized substance yielded a positive result for cocaine.
Following this discovery, the truck was taken to the Customs facilities in Irún, where a thorough inspection of the entire cargo was carried out and a total of 65 blocks containing 75 kilos of cocaine were found.
Both the detainee and the seized narcotic substance were placed at the disposal of the Duty Court of Irún (Gipuzkoa).
