The Tax Agency seizes 2.5 tonnes of hashish in Murcia

Six people have been arrested

August 5, 2008 . The Tax Agency seized 2,500 kilograms of hashish in the early hours of Monday, August 4, in an operation against drug trafficking carried out by officers of the Combined Customs Surveillance Unit of Malaga.

The operation was carried out at approximately 05:00 hours on 04.08.2008 jointly by one of the helicopters and the vessels assigned to the Regional Customs and Excise Department of Andalusia, which boarded a fishing vessel as it was heading to the port of La Caleta de Vélez, containing the narcotic substance inside its holds.

The six crew members of the boat, two of Moroccan nationality and four of Spanish nationality, were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a crime of smuggling and against public health. The people arrested along with the boat were taken to the port of Malaga.

Once the facts were brought to the attention of the Judicial Authority and the entry and search was authorized by the Investigating Court No. 2 on duty in Malaga, an exhaustive inspection of the vessel was carried out, which resulted in the discovery of a total of eighty packages containing hashish resin, with a total weight of approximately 2,500 kilograms.

Both the drugs and the seized boat and the detainees will be placed at the disposal of the Málaga Court of Instruction on duty.

This seizure is part of a special surveillance operation carried out by Customs Surveillance officials, which aims to combat the smuggling of sensitive goods and drug trafficking throughout Spain.
