The Tax Agency and the Civil Guard seize almost half a million cigarette packets in the Port of Barcelona
They had declared that the container from China was carrying electric generators. The market value of the seized tobacco would be €1,500,000.00.
December 17, 2008. The Spanish Tax Agency and the Civil Guard have seized 480,900 packs of Lambert & Butler blond tobacco at the Port of Barcelona, which lacked the required tax stamps, with a value of 1,418,655 euros, in a container from China.
The goods controls and physical inspection of containers carried out by the Barcelona Customs resulted in the discovery inside the container of boxes without any type of inscription or logo, which contained cartons of Lambert & Butler brand tobacco, whose packs lack the regulatory seals as well as the documentation that proves their legal importation.
The cargo declared for the seized container was electric generators and its destination was a company located in the city of Gerona.
The proceedings carried out, the tobacco and the container seized have been made available to the Barcelona Court of Instruction on Duty.
