The Tax Agency seizes 3,000 kilos of hashish in the province of Seville
The operation is a consequence of the special control device carried out by Customs Surveillance in Andalusia
June 22, 2009 . The Tax Agency seized 3,000 kilograms of hashish on the 14th in an operation against drug trafficking carried out by Customs Surveillance officials in Cadiz.
The operation, called “Medusa”, began on the afternoon of June 14 when a surveillance device detected a semi-rigid inflatable boat, 8 meters long and equipped with 3 engines, sailing towards the coast of Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz). At night, the target under surveillance headed towards the mouth of the Guadalquivir River and began to sail upriver.
At around 1 a.m. on June 15, the smuggling vessel ran aground near the town of Puebla del Río in Seville and it was decided to intervene simultaneously by sea and air.
The operation involved the seizure of a large drug stash which, after an exhaustive count, revealed a weight of 3,000 kilos of hashish resin, distributed in 100 bales of similar characteristics. The alleged drug traffickers managed to escape, although the investigation is still open, so it is not ruled out that some arrests will be made in the next few hours. Both the drugs and the seized boat have been placed at the disposal of the Court of Coria del Río (Seville), acting as guard.
Operation Medusa is part of a special surveillance operation developed by Customs Surveillance officers of the Tax Agency, which aims to combat the smuggling of sensitive goods and drug trafficking.
