The Tax Agency refunds more than 6,700 million euros to 10.8 million taxpayers after the close of the Income Tax Campaign

2015 Income Tax Campaign

  • 18.9 million tax returns statements have already been registered, 642,000 more than in the previous campaign
  • Of the total number of returns, almost 9.5 million have been made via the new ‘RENTA WEB’ platform
  • 83% of the registered returns were filed via Internet, 30 points more than five years ago
  • Almost 75% of the refunds and 62% of the amounts requested have already been paid to the taxpayers

4 July 2016.-The Tax Agency has already refunded 6,756 million euros to 10,803,000 taxpayers after the conclusion of the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) campaign corresponding to the 2015 fiscal year, meaning that almost 75% of the refunds requested have been made and 62% of the amounts have already been paid.

Up to 1 July, the Agency had already registered 18,947,000 Income Tax returns, 642,000 more than on the same date last year. For the present campaign, it is anticipated that 19,708,000 returns will be filed. Therefore, some returns already filed remain to be registered, but a new increase in the number of online filings has been confirmed.

More than 15,847,000 taxpayers have used Internet to file their returns, 9% more than last year. Until yesterday, 83% of all returns had been filed by this method, which means 30 points more than five years ago, when the Tax Agency began to strengthen measures to promote Internet as the primary filing method by expediting the procedures to be followed by taxpayers and, where applicable, any refunds owed to them.

Almost 9.5 million tax returns with ‘RENTA WEB’

This streamlining of the filing process has been boosted by the use of the new 'RENTA WEB' platform as the main tool for taxpayers to prepare and file their returns.

More than 9,488,000 returns have been filed with the new platform, which represents an increase of 16% in online submissions of drafts via internet registered by the Agency after the close of last year's campaign.

In contrast, filings with the 'PADRE' program decreased by almost 7% due to the reduction of the number of taxpayers who this year have continued to be obliged to file their returns with the traditional help program offered by the Tax Agency.

In this year's Income Tax campaign, the Tax Agency has arranged more than 2.4 million appointments and has attended more than 4.2 million telephone calls.

Wealth Tax

In parallel to the Personal Income Tax Campaign, the Agency has developed the campaign for Wealth Tax, which must be declared by taxpayers who owe taxes (after applying relevant deductions and discounts) and by taxpayers who do not owe taxes but who last year had assets and rights worth over 2 million euros.

To date, almost 188,000 Wealth Tax returns have already been registered and the amount to be entered reaches 994 million euros.
