The Tax Agency has already returned over 6.8 billion euros to 11 million tax payers following the end of the campaign

2016 Income Campaign

  • To date, 19.4 million declarations have already been registered, 450,000 more than in the previous campaign.
  • More than 79% of the refunds and 68% of the amounts requested have already been paid to taxpayers
  • Of the total number of presentations, almost 88% have been presented online, 34 points more than six years ago, when measures began to be reinforced to promote electronic means as the main presentation formula.
  • 'RENTA WEB' and the improvements from previous years have made it possible to speed up the campaign so that in the first two months, 43% more returns were submitted and 35% more returns were paid than six years ago in the same section of the campaign.

July 4, 2017.- The Tax Agency has already returned 6,818 million euros to 11,087,000 taxpayers after concluding the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) campaign corresponding to the fiscal year 2016, so that, at this time, more than 79% of the refunds requested and 68% of the amounts have already been paid.

As of yesterday, the Agency had already registered 19,398,000 Income Tax returns, which is 450,900 more
than last year on the same dates. For this campaign, the presentation of 19,750,000 declarations was planned.

With provisional data, therefore, a new increase in the number of online filings is confirmed, reaching the figure of 17 million declarations, almost 88% of the total. The growth in the weight of the Internet over the total number of filings is 34 points, if the comparison is established with the figures from six years ago (IRPF 2010, presented in 2011), when measures began to be reinforced to promote telematic means as main formula for preparing and presenting declarations.

Speedier filings and refunds

The full implementation of "RENTA WEB' this year as a universal tool offered by the Tax Agency for managing all tax returns represents the culmination of a strategy started six years ago with the setting up of the REN0 service for obtaining the tax return draft online, and its aim was to speed up tax return filing and facilitate the refund process, so that more taxpayers could file sooner and get their refund faster.

Thus, taking the first two months (two thirds) of the campaign that has just ended, the number of tax returns filed has grown by over 3,100,000 with respect to the figures for the same period six years ago, i.e. 43%, and refunds are up by over 1,600,000, i.e. 35%. In this latest campaign, half of the expected total tax returns were already filed in these first two months.

These objectives were accomplished during this campaign, whilst at the same time keeping up with the traditional on-site customer care service. This year, the Tax Agency has made more than 2.4 million appointments for the preparation of the declaration and has answered more than 4.3 million calls for the presentation of declarations, information and assistance.

Wealth Tax

In parallel with the Income Campaign, the Wealth Tax Campaign has been developed, which had to be declared by those taxpayers with a fee to pay (after applying the corresponding deductions and bonuses) and also those without a fee to pay, but who last year had assets. and rights with a value greater than 2 million euros.

As of yesterday, more than 197,500 Asset declarations have been registered and the amount to be deposited reaches 1,033 million euros.
