More than two tonnes of hashish seized from a group of drug traffickers off the coast of Huelva

Joint operation with the Tax Agency, National Police and the Guardia Civil

  • The drugs, stored in 73 bales, were unloaded by a semi-rigid boat in the Piedras River and later transported by car to a farm, where two people were arrested.
  • When the officials entered the premises to which the vehicles loaded with hashish went, a vehicle left the interior, ramming the police cars.

September 15, 2017 .- Officials from the Tax Agency and agents from the National Police and the Civil Guard have seized 2,300 kilograms of hashish in an anti-drug trafficking operation carried out in Huelva. A pistol with a silencer and an assault rifle were also seized in the operation. Two people were arrested when the officials entered the premises where the vehicles loaded with hashish went and one of them left the interior and rammed the police cars.

The operation began in the early hours of August 24, when the air-naval detection means of the Customs Department of the Tax Agency detected a semi-rigid boat, loaded with packages usually used for the transport of hashish, sailing towards the Piedras River. (Huelva). The corresponding control device was immediately activated, with the participation of Customs Surveillance operations from the Tax Agency, National Police and Civil Guard.

At dawn, the boat approached one of the banks of the river, unloading the drugs into two off-road vehicles that headed inside a nearby farm, where the control device was moved.

At the farm, one of them was intercepted and he left the interior and rammed the police cars, three people escaped and their driver was arrested, as well as another individual who was inside the farm. The boat was set on fire in an attempt to remove it from police control.

They used weapons to protect drugs

After the inspection, the two vehicles were found, inside which 73 bales of hashish were found, weighing approximately 2,300 kilograms. In addition to the drugs seized, during the search inside the property an 'AO 17' assault rifle with several magazines and more than 150 cartridges was seized, and a semi-automatic pistol with a silencer and ammunition; weapons that were used to protect drugs.

This operation, carried out in coordination between the three institutions, is part of a special surveillance device carried out on the Andalusian coasts on vessels potentially susceptible to engaging in illicit activities. New arrests are not ruled out.
