2017 Income Tax campaign

• 84% of the refunds and almost 74% of the amounts requested have been paid so far

August 2, 2018 .- As of July 31, the Tax Agency has returned 7,385 million euros to 11,779,000 taxpayers, so that 84.4% of the refunds and 73.8% of the amounts requested in the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) campaign for 2017 have already been paid.

 After incorporating almost all the declarations not computed at the end of the campaign, the Agency has registered 19,909,000 declarations, 250,000 more than at the same time last year. Refund requests total 13,947,000, or 70% of the total.

 Data from the Ministry of Finance headed by María Jesús Montero show that refund requests have remained at very similar figures to last year (-0.6%), and refunds paid are evolving in line with this trend. The amounts requested for repayment and those actually repaid also follow a very similar trend (+0.1% year-on-year).

The last campaign included the introduction of the new mobile application and the 'Le Llamamos' plan for filing tax returns by telephone. The new 'APP' has been used by almost 200,000 taxpayers to file their Income Tax returns. Of this total, almost 158,000 have been declarations submitted 'in a single click' and the rest have been submitted after going through the Agency's website to make any changes.

 In turn, 141,000 taxpayers who are less accustomed to new technologies and who have a telephone assistance profile have chosen to set a date and time for the AEAT to call them and have filed their tax return using the 'We Call You' plan.

 Nearly a third of taxpayers who last year went to the Agency's offices to get help preparing their tax returns and who, however, did not make any changes to the initial calculations proposed by the AEAT, have this year opted for remote methods, thus avoiding travel and having the opportunity to receive their refund sooner, if applicable.

 Wealth Tax

 In parallel, the Wealth Tax campaign has been carried out, which had to be declared by taxpayers with a positive tax rate (after applying deductions and bonuses), as well as those without a rate who last year had assets and rights worth more than 2 million euros. After incorporating the pending filings to be accounted for, 203,300 declarations have been registered, of which more than 176,000 involved amounts to be paid for a total of 1.111 billion euros.
