Tax Agency boards a sailing boat in open sea containing 5.5 tonnes of hashish

Operation 'Landa'

  • The two crew members of the boat, which was carrying 183 bales of drugs, were arrested

August 10, 2019 .- In the early hours of August 9, Customs Surveillance agents of the Tax Agency boarded a Dutch-flagged sailboat that was transporting 5,500 kilos of hashish. During the course of the operation, the two crew members of the boat were arrested.

The operation, called 'Landa', began when the Tax Agency's aerial Customs Surveillance equipment detected a semi-rigid inflatable boat, loaded with packages commonly used to transport hashish, which was heading towards a sailboat to which it transferred the merchandise.

The corresponding operation was then established, in which different naval and aerial Customs resources participated, initiating a control device that led to the boarding of the sailboat and its transfer to the port of Almería, for its registration ordered by the Central Court of Instruction number 5.

Once the drug was counted, it revealed the quantity of 183 packages, with an approximate weight of 5,500 kilos of high-purity hashish, according to the field analysis carried out with a narcotest.

The two detainees, along with the seized drugs and the vessel were placed at the disposal of the investigating court on duty in Almería.
