Tax Agency boards a sailing boat in open sea containing 5.5 tonnes of hashish

Operation 'Landa'

  • The two crew members of the boat, which was transporting 183 bales of drugs, were arrested 

August 10, 2019 .- In the early hours of August 9, Customs Surveillance agents from the Tax Agency boarded a Dutch-flagged sailboat that was transporting 5,500 kilos of hashish. In the course of the operation, the two crew members of the boat have been arrested.

The operation, called 'Landa', began when the Customs Surveillance aerial means of the Tax Agency detected a semi-rigid inflatable boat, loaded with packages commonly used to transport hashish, which was heading towards a sailboat to which transshipped the merchandise.

Next, the corresponding operation was established in which different naval and air Customs assets participated, starting a control device that led to the boarding of the sailboat and its transfer to the port of Almería, for its registration ordered by the Central Court of Instruction number 5.

Once a drug count was carried out, the quantity was 183 packages, weighing approximately 5,500 kilos of high purity hashish, according to the field analysis carried out with a narco test.

The two detainees, along with the seized drugs and the seized boat, were placed at the disposal of the investigating court acting as guard in Almería.
