AEAT participates in the first meeting between directors of EU country tax administrations

'Tadeus' Group

  • The forum arises with the objective of strengthening the cooperation of European tax administrations and developing coordination at a long-term strategic level.
  • Among the matters discussed is the need to obtain information from digital platforms that generate income for their users.

October 2, 2019 .- The Tax Agency has participated in the first plenary meeting of the 'Tadeus' group (European Summit of Tax Administrations), held on September 17 and 18 in Helsinki . The forum was attended by the director general of the AEAT, Jesús Gascón, his counterparts from the European Union and the director general of Taxation of the European Commission, Stephen Quest.

'Tadeus' arises from the debates opened last year by the European Commission, the member countries and their tax administrations on the convenience of creating a forum of tax agencies at the highest level that would allow strengthening the cooperation of the administrations and establishing strategic coordination of actions in the long term.

During the meeting, special attention was devoted to the evolution of three study projects considered priority. In the first of them, referring to obtaining information from digital platforms that facilitate income-generating transactions for their users, Gascón explained the Spanish experience in relation to the current information obligation for vacation rental platforms.

The other two projects analyzed refer to determining the level of maturity of human resources management in European tax administrations, and to improving both taxpayer confidence in their administrations and their voluntary compliance.

Likewise, new possible projects were studied at the meetings, such as a French proposal on measuring the execution of administrative cooperation, in which Spain has shown interest in participating. There was also a review of the status of all the administrative cooperation initiatives that are currently underway in the EU, their regulatory development and the role that 'Tadeus' could have in the design of its strategy and possible future steps.

The directors present at the first plenary meeting of 'Tadeus' signed the final declaration of the summit (attached in a separate document) and set the next meeting for 2020 in Germany.
