What is the ATA notebook used for?
The ATA carnet is an international customs document regulated in the Convention Concerning Temporary Importation, made in Istanbul on June 26, 1990 and in the ATA Convention made in Brussels on December 6, 1961 that can be used as a transit document for the movement of goods through or within the customs territory of the Union, and as a request for temporary import authorization for goods and uses contemplated in the Convention under which it is issued.
ATA carnets are issued by the International Chamber of Commerce Office to the international guarantor associations of the Contracting Parties (usually the chambers of commerce).
Each notebook is covered by a guarantee that insures the amount of import duties and other charges that may arise in the event that the re-export of the merchandise is not carried out.
