Error 8888: The previous receipt number does not exist

NOTE : If you are filing an amended return, the full message is: "Error 8888: The previous receipt number does not exist. It must complement another declaration that is already registered."

This error occurs, in the case of a supplementary declaration, when you try to submit the declaration indicating a receipt number that does not correspond to any declaration that is registered.

In the case of a substitute declaration, it occurs when a declaration is submitted indicating a receipt that is not listed in the records as submitted.

In both cases you are indicating a non-existent justification.

To resolve this error message, in the case of supplementary declarations, locate the supporting document for the declaration you want to supplement in the declarant's file and indicate it in the declaration.

In the case of substitute declarations, locate the actual proof of the declaration you wish to replace and indicate it in the declaration.
