Obtaining and assigning the EORI
How can you apply for an EORI number?
Article 6 of the Union Customs Code implies that any exchange of information, such as declarations, applications or decisions, between customs authorities and between them and economic operators and the storage of such information required under customs legislation must be carried out using electronic data processing techniques. In Spain, the application for the EORI number must be made using the procedures on this same page or from “All procedures” on this website.
Only in those cases in which they are carriers that are not established in the EU and are not required to obtain a NIF in Spain, the “EORI application for non-established” form has been created in order to facilitate their registration without need to obtain a prior NIF. This form can be submitted in paper form at any Customs and Excise Department, in person or through a representative, in which case, their contact details must be entered in the corresponding box.
Each Member State is competent to register those operators established therein. Therefore, Spanish customs is competent to register operators established in Spain.
Furthermore, economic operators who are not established in the Union may request the allocation of an EORI number from any Member State (only from one State, and which will normally be the one in which they carry out the first operation for which an EORI number is required).
