August 31, 2026. Officers from the Customs Surveillance Operational Unit, together with agents from the Civil Guard belonging to the Fiscal and Borders Section, and its Fiscal and Borders Analysis and Investigation Unit (UDAIFF) of the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, have arrested two people in the port of Tenerife who were hiding more than 22 kilos of cocaine in their vehicle.

The operation took place when, at a tax checkpoint in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, upon the arrival of a ship from Gran Canaria, investigators identified two men who disembarked in their vehicle and who had raised suspicions after a brief interview.

Both occupants of the vehicle had a suspicious and evasive attitude, in addition to inconsistencies and contradictions in the interview held with the acting agents. At that moment, the agents requested to check the vehicle, finding a large piece of luggage in the trunk, which contained 20 packages wrapped in brown tape. Once the 'Drug Test' was performed on its contents, it gave a positive result for cocaine.

Once all the packaging was removed, it was weighed, yielding more than 22 kilos (22,160 gr) of cocaine. In addition, cash amounting to almost 5,000 euros was found inside the vehicle.

As a result of the police intervention, a major drug trafficking network has been dismantled, which was transporting more than 22 kilos of high-purity cocaine, which would have reached a value of more than one million three hundred thousand euros.

The detainees, along with the proceedings and seized substances, have been placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, which has ordered the imprisonment of both.
