• 92 people investigated for their alleged involvement in 102 thefts of perfumes and tobacco, valued at 87,000 euros

• The investigation led to the recovery of items valued at over 45,000 euros

July 22, 2026. Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency and agents of the Civil Guard belonging to the Fiscal and Border Analysis and Investigation Unit (UDAIFF) of the Tenerife South Airport Section, within the framework of operation 'Tonfa TF', have arrested or investigated 92 people accused of committing at least 102 crimes of theft continuously in a commercial establishment located in the Tenerife South Airport. In the thefts, the members of the criminal group stole items valued at 87,237 euros, mainly high-end perfumes and cartons of tobacco.

Following the investigation, the specialized agents were able to determine that the accused always used the same 'modus operandi' to commit the crimes: They entered the establishments in groups of two or more people, and while some were in charge of watching to make sure they were not being observed by the employees, others put the items into bags, backpacks, etc., and then left the store with the stolen goods.

Thanks to this investigation, it has been possible to identify, locate and arrest or investigate the 92 defendants at the airports of Seville, Barcelona, ​​Malaga, Madrid, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Elche, with the support of units belonging to each Command.

In addition, two criminal groups dedicated to this type of theft have been dismantled, and many of the stolen items, valued at more than 45,000 euros, have been recovered.

The proceedings, along with the detainees and those under investigation, were placed at the disposal of the Courts of Plaza de los de Granadilla de Abona.
