• Eleven people have been arrested and 35 searches have been carried out in Granada and Seville, where more than 200,000 euros, 14 vehicles, six firearms and nearly 4,000 marijuana plants have been seized.

Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency and the Civil Guard, within the framework of the joint operation 'Nazarí 11 Zegri', have dismantled one of the most active and dangerous organizations dedicated to committing drug 'rip-offs' in the province of Granada. The operation has resulted in eleven people being arrested and 35 raids and searches in the provinces of Granada and Seville.

The criminal organization, based mainly in the Granada neighborhood of Almanjáyar, was dedicated to stealing large quantities of drugs from other criminal organizations.

To commit the robberies, they used stolen vehicles, equipped with false license plates, and caused collisions with vehicles from other organizations to force them to stop. Subsequently, concealing their identity with balaclavas and impersonating law enforcement officers by using uniforms, police vests and other identifying items, they intimidated and assaulted the occupants to steal the drugs they were transporting or even the vehicle.

The investigation has confirmed that the group had a complex logistical infrastructure that included the supply of stolen vehicles and fake license plates from the province of Seville. In addition, they had sophisticated technological means such as frequency jammers, surveillance cameras and GPS devices that they installed in the vehicles of their victims to control all their movements before carrying out the assaults.

Extremely dangerous actions

The detainees did not hesitate to provoke chases and collisions of vehicles on high-capacity roads with high traffic intensity, such as the A-44 or the A-92, during peak traffic times. During the assaults they displayed and even used firearms, both against their victims and in the presence of other citizens, generating significant social alarm and seriously endangering road safety and the physical integrity of third parties.

In separate incidents, the suspects rammed police vehicles in an attempt to evade surveillance devices. The most serious incident occurred during a raid in April, when one of the detainees opened fire on the officers entering the home. Despite the exchange of fire, there were no injuries.

Once the agents identified those responsible, eleven people were arrested and 35 searches were carried out. 22 of them were carried out in the Almanjáyar neighborhood, one in the south of Granada capital, one in Albolote, two in Armilla, three in Alhendín, one in Las Gabias and five in the province of Seville, specifically in the towns of Utrera, Alcalá de Guadaíra and Carmona.

More than 200,000 euros, weapons, vehicles and marijuana plantations seized

During the searches, more than 200,000 euros in cash were seized, along with 14 vehicles valued at more than 600,000 euros, six firearms, five simulated weapons, abundant ammunition of various calibers, including 7.62 caliber cartridges used in war weapons, bulletproof vests, vests and official uniforms of the Security Forces and Corps from different police units, police identification badges, flashing lights, restraint straps, machetes, signal jammers and GPS beacons.

Additionally, nine marijuana plantations with approximately 4,000 plants were dismantled, where 30 kilos of marijuana buds prepared for distribution and several kilos of packaged hashish were seized.

The detainees are accused of, among other things, belonging to a criminal organization, attempted homicide, drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons, robberies with violence and intimidation, vehicle theft, attacks against law enforcement officers, reckless driving, injuries, death threats, and crimes against public health.

The operation remains open and further arrests related to this criminal organization are not ruled out.

The operation has been carried out by the Granada Operational Unit of Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency and the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Granada, and has had the participation of the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) of the Civil Guard Command of Seville, all under the instruction of the Civil and Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance of Motril square Nº5.
