• The arrest took place at a customs checkpoint upon the arrival of a ship from Gran Canaria.

July 28, 2026. Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency and agents from the Fiscal and Border Analysis and Investigation Unit (UDAIFF) of the Civil Guard have arrested a person in the port of Tenerife who was hiding 4.5 kilos of cocaine in his vehicle.

The operation took place when, at a tax checkpoint in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife upon the arrival of a ship from Gran Canaria, investigators identified a man driving a car who had aroused suspicion after a brief interview.

The driver displayed a nervous and evasive attitude, as well as aggressive and defiant behavior towards the officers. At that moment, the suspect identified himself with a false identity and fled the scene on foot when he realized that the officers were going to find the drugs hidden in the vehicle. During the escape, he confronted the intervening Civil Guard officers, causing them minor injuries.

After inspecting the vehicle, 4.5 kilos of cocaine were found, which would have had a value of almost 280,000 euros. At that moment, the investigators seized the narcotic substance and arrested the driver of the vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the distribution method and end-use of the seized narcotic substance.

The detainee, along with the seized substance, was brought before the court at Plaza 2 Section of Instruction of S/C de Tenerife, on duty, which took charge of the investigation, ordering the detainee's imprisonment.
