Amendments introduced by the Royal Decree-Law 16/2018
Find out why the High-Speed Craft Register is being created
Royal Decree-Law 16/2018, of October 26, which adopts certain measures to combat the illicit trafficking of people and goods in relation to the vessels used, introduces the following new features:
Certain high-speed inflatable and semi-rigid boats type RIBs or similar (known by their acronym RigidInflatableBoat (RIB), Rigid-HulledInflatableBoat (RHIB)) will be considered a prohibited type, which due to their unique characteristics, on the one hand, pose a danger to maritime security, and on the other hand, they have been frequently used by criminal organizations to carry out criminal activities taking advantage of their power and speed.
To this end, the vessels that are included in the scope of application as a prohibited gender are determined, as well as the assumptions that exclude boats from not being classified as a prohibited gender; and for this purpose, the Special Registry of Operators of High-Speed Inflatable and Semi-rigid Boats is established, as well as the authorization of use and registration of each of the vessels in which any of the circumstances provided for in the standard occur.
