Royal Decree-Law 16/2018 of 26 October, adopting certain measures to combat the smuggling of persons and goods in relation to vessels used, opens in a new window
Certain high-speed inflatable and semi-rigid inflatable boats (RIBs or similar), known as Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) or Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boats (RHIBs), which, due to their unique characteristics, on the one hand, pose a danger to maritime safety and, on the other hand, are frequently used by criminal organisations for criminal activities, taking advantage of their power and speed, shall be considered as prohibited goods.
For this purpose, boats included within the scope of application as prohibited items, as well as boats excluded, not described as prohibited items;and for this purpose, the Special Register of Operators of Rigid Inflatable Boats and Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boats has been established, as well as the authorisation for use and registration of each boat in which any of these circumstances prevail.
