Post-customs requirements
Here's what you need to do after importing your vehicle to be able to drive it on the road
Requirements for driving an imported vehicle
Before you can drive an imported vehicle, it must pass the 'ITV' (Vehicle Inspection Test) (which would be its first inspection in Spain) to ensure that it meets the standards required to be on the road, from both a safety and environmental point of view. When passing the ITV (Technical Inspection of Vehicles) the following documentation is required:
1. Proof of vehicle ownership (original and copy)
2. Proof of payment of import rights and taxes (original and copy)
3. Owner's driver's licence
4. Vehicle insurance policy
5. Vehicle technical specifications
If the inspection is successful, you will receive an ITV certificate and continue to register the vehicle. These details must be confirmed at the time through the following link to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism whose link can be found in the Help section of this page.
