TARIC. Definition

TARIC is a European Union regulation that sets out the common customs tariff (duties on goods and other measures) and meets the requirements of foreign trade statistics and European Union policies (trade, agricultural or otherwise) relating to the import or export of goods.

The European Union Tariff is based on the Combined Nomenclature (CN) which is published annually in the Official Journal of the European Union before 31 October and enters into force on 1 January of the following year.

The Combined Nomenclature is divided into three parts:

  • Preliminary provisions.
  • Coding and rights table.
  • Tariff annexes.
