Download and installation of the Java Virtual Machine
Skip information indexDownload and installation of the Java Virtual Machine - Prior considerations
To run help programs or carry out procedures that still use Java on the AEAT website, it is necessary to install Java on the computer.
Since Microsoft Edge does not support Java plugins, and Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox (version 52 and later) and Safari (version 12) have limited their support for the technology required for Java applets (NPAPI), the recommended options depending on the operating system are as follows:
Windows
On Windows operating systems, you can use the Microsoft Edge browser set to Internet Explorer compatibility mode. For more information, see the "Checking the Java Virtual Machine" help.
Mac OS
On Mac OS systems you can use a version of Firefox older than 52 or, alternatively, access it from a Windows computer with Microsoft Edge, configuring compatibility with Internet Explorer.
To be able to install updated versions of Java on Mac, the minimum system version must be 10.7.3.
Linux
On Linux systems you can use a version of Firefox older than 52 or install the Pale Moon browser with the necessary settings to run Java plugins.
