How to register in Cl@ve
Skip information indexRegistration in Cl@ve online with an invitation letter and CSV (basic level)
To identify yourself with Cl@ve in the procedures that accept it as an identification system, you must be previously registered in this electronic identification system.
If you do not have an electronic certificate, you can register online, either by requesting the letter of invitation (sent by post to your tax address) and completing the registration with the Secure Verification Code (CSV) or by video call.
Note: Registering via CSV or video call represents a basic registration level in Cl@ve. Some bodies other than the Tax Agency may require an advanced level (in-person registration or with an electronic certificate) to access their most common procedures.
Below, we detail the steps needed to register with CSV:
Go to the option "Register in Cl@ve" on the website.
You can also request the letter from the Cl@ve app. When installing the application and activating the user, if it is detected that you are not registered in the Cl@ve system, you will be given the option to register. Also go to "Gestiones" in the menu at the bottom of the screen and click on "Register in Cl@ve."
The registration process begins, indicating the DNI/NIE.
- DNI: 8 Numbers and letter (no space or script)
- NIE: Letter 7 numbers and letter (without spaces or hyphens)
Depending on the type of document indicated, different additional data will be required:
- If it is a DNI: Enter the validity date. In the event of a permanent DNI (with a validity period of 01/01/9999), the requested data is the issue date. At the bottom, you have two help links explaining how to find the validity/issue date in the different types of DNI.
- If it is a NIE: The support number that appears in the document will be requested. You can display the help links "How to obtain the support number...," which explain how to locate this data in your foreign card, residence permit or EU citizen certificate and how to enter it correctly in the registration form. For more information on the support number, you can also consult the help "Enter valid support" (How to enter the support number). "
When you click "Continue," the details entered will be validated. If correct, the following window will offer both online registration channels without an electronic certificate: With CSV, upon request of an invitation letter, and by video call.
Click on the "Yes, send me an invitation letter to my tax address" button.
If the request is recorded correctly, the message is displayed confirming that the letter is sent to the tax address stated in our databases at that time. Click on "Accept."
Once you have received the letter, you will have 60 days to use it. Complete the registration by going back to the same option "Register in Cl@ve" from the "Register Cl@ve" portal and providing the requested details: DNI/NIE and validity/issue date or support number. On this occasion, select the option "I already have an invitation letter" and click on the "Continue" button. Please note that you have 60 days to use it, after this time the CSV will expire.
In the next step, complete the Secure Verification Code (CSV) of 16 characters that appears in the letter and click on "Continue." If you cannot find it, consult the help "How to obtain the CSV in your invitation letter?" at the bottom.
If 60 days have passed, the CSV of the invitation letter will have expired. In this case, you will obtain a notification stating that the CSV has expired, and you can request a new invitation letter or register by video call, in person or with an electronic DNI certificate.
The details requested in this last step of the Cl@ve registration are the mobile phone number in which you wish to receive the SMS sent by the Tax Agency with the PIN and an email. If the mobile phone has an overseas number, you must also provide the country code.
Important note: If the system detects that the mobile phone number entered is linked to another DNI/NIE, you will receive an SMS message with an access code to complete the registration. A field will be enabled in the registration application for the contribution of this code. Remember that registering with Cl@ve only allows a mobile phone number per user. In this case, access to the Cl@ve system for the previous DNI/NIE associated is automatically disabled.
After accepting the conditions and clicking "Send," a screen is displayed with the activation code; Click on "View PDF " to obtain the Cl@ve registration receipt, which you can save and print.
The document contains an activation code that allows you to activate the Permanent Cl@ve, as well as the instructions for activation and the terms and conditions of use of the system.
For more information on the Permanent Cl@ve website, see the Cl@ve portal.
