I.4.1.3.1. Main elements or messages used by the NCTS

Before going into details, it is worth mentioning the main elements and messages used by the NCTS.

  • Transit Declaration: It is submitted in electronic format (sent as the “Declaration Data” message IE015).

  • Master Reference Number (MRN): unique registration number that the system assigns to the declaration to identify the movement of goods.

  • Transit Accompanying Document (TAD): accompanies the goods from the customs office of departure to the customs office of destination.

  • "Advance Arrival Notice" (IE001 message): sent by the customs office of departure to the declared customs office of destination indicated in the declaration.

  • "Advance Traffic Notice" (IE050 message): sent by the customs office of departure to the declared customs office(s) of passage to notify them in advance that the goods are to cross the border.

  • Border Crossing Notification (IE118 message): sent by the effective customs office after verifying the goods.

  • «Arrival Notice» (IE006 message): sent by the effective customs office of destination to the customs office of departure upon arrival of the goods.

  • «Control results» (IE018 message): sent by the effective customs office of destination to the customs office of departure (after checking the goods where necessary).

It is also important to understand that the system covers all possible combinations of standard and simplified procedures, both at origin (authorized shipper) and destination (authorized recipient).
