What is Customs Surveillance?
Learn about the organisation and functions of the Customs Surveillance Service
Organisation
Customs Surveillance is an Assistant Directorate that depends, organically and functionally, on the Department of Customs and Excise Taxes and is integrated into the State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT), which belongs to the Ministry of Finance.
In terms of organization, the Deputy Directorate of Customs Surveillance, at the central level, is composed of the General Subdirectorate of Operations and the General Subdirectorate of Logistics.
At the territorial level, the Head of the Regional Customs Surveillance Area has the status of Deputy to the Head of the Regional Customs and Excise Unit. One or three Regional Unit Headquarters depend on it (depending on whether or not the Area has air-naval means): the Regional Operational Unit, the Aeronaval and Logistics. And, in turn, the Regional Area includes the Operational Research Units, the Maritime and Air Bases, and the Combined Units (in those places where an Operational Unit and a Maritime Base coexist).
