What is Customs Surveillance?
Learn about the organisation and functions of the Customs Surveillance Service
Personal and operational means
In the Customs Surveillance Area, there are currently 2,276 officials performing their duties, including Investigation and Maritime specialties (which include Navigation, Propulsion and Communications).
All of them are authorized to carry weapons, so their operational resources include individual weapons.
Furthermore, the officers are considered to be judicial police, a mission for which surveillance and monitoring equipment and technology are used, as well as a global system for legal interception of communications.
Customs Surveillance has a naval fleet of 46 vessels, two of which are Special Operations Vessels (all equipped with fixed weapons), as well as an air fleet of 4 helicopters and 68 drones. It also has a network of Border Radiological Control teams spread throughout Spain, which provides information on the movement of possible illegal or potentially dangerous goods.
