Timber or Timber Products Subject to FLEGT Licensing
The FLEGT licensing system refers to the licensing of timber products from exporting countries that have signed and ratified a Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) with the European Union. This system is developed by Council Regulation 2173/2005 of 20 December 2005 on the establishment of a FLEGT licensing scheme for imports of timber into the European Community (FLEGT Regulation) and is supplemented by Commission Regulation 1024/2008 of 17 October 2008 laying down detailed rules for the implementation of the FLEGT Regulation It applies to wood, chapter 44, excluding those that are subject to CITES, and certain furniture from chapter 94.
