Skip information indexError 401
Error 401 is related to an identification error when accessing a service with an electronic certificate or electronic ID . It is usually accompanied by different messages indicating the reason for the error. Below we show the most common causes that generate this error and how to solve it.
401 "Not authorized. "An error occurred while verifying the submitted certificate."
As the error message shows, this could be due to a number of different reasons.
To solve this problem, you must first check whether the certificate is expired or revoked. To do this, go to the page of the entity that issued the certificate. If it is issued by the FNMT or it is an electronic DNI you can check the status of the certificate on the FNMT website. See the help "How to check the status of an electronic certificate from the FNMT or the electronic DNI ".
Also check if there are any expired or revoked certificates in the warehouse.
If the certificate is expired or revoked, you will need to request a new one.
If the certificate is valid and not revoked, check if there are other certificates installed in the store that are not valid and may interfere with the correct operation of the current certificate. If so, you will need to delete them.
If the certificate is valid and not revoked, and there are no other invalid certificates installed in the browser, it is advisable to check the antivirus settings or if any type of malware has been installed on your computer.
If you are using the DNI electronic on the Macintosh operating system the supported browser is Mozilla Firefox, use this browser instead of Safari or Google Chrome.
Perform the necessary checks so that the electronic DNI works correctly depending on the browser you use.
401 "Certificate revoked".
Revocation refers to the definitive loss of validity of a certificate due to circumstances other than its expiration. This revocation may be done voluntarily at the request of the certificate holder or automatically by the certifying entity.
The certificate may be automatically revoked by the certificate issuing authority, among other reasons, when:
- It is renewed before its expiration date.
- There is any change that legally requires registration in the Commercial Registry, in the case of certificates of sole or joint Administrator.
- Death of the holder.
Therefore, first of all it is necessary to check the status of the certificate on the certifying authority's page. If the certificate is from the FNMT , follow the steps detailed in the help "How to check the status of an electronic certificate from the FNMT or the electronic DNI ".
If the certificate is revoked, a new electronic certificate must be requested.
In some cases this error may also appear with the code "500 Certificate revoked".
401 "Certificate error" or 401 "Invalid certificate due to NIF having changed"
This error is generated in cases where the NIE has been changed to DNI , or because the letter of the NIF has been changed in a legal entity, or when the identification data has not been issued correctly in the certificate.
In any case, it is necessary to obtain a new electronic certificate in order to be able to identify yourself correctly.
401 There is no data identifying the certificate
When there are discrepancies between the name that appears in the census of AEAT and the one reflected in the certificate, for example, an extra space between two letters of the company name, this error message is returned.
401 Certificate not valid because it is from a Stamp
This error occurs when using a stamp certificate in a procedure in which this type of identification is not contemplated.
